Frequently asked questions
Straight answers about scratches, paint and headlights. If your question is not here, send a photo and ask — that is faster than guessing.
Can any scratch be buffed out?
No. Scratches that stayed in the clear coat can be removed or heavily reduced by machine buffing. Scratches that went through the paint to primer or bare metal need repainting at a body shop. Send a photo and you will get an honest answer before any money changes hands.
How do I know if a scratch is through the clear coat?
Run a fingernail across it. If your nail glides over, it is almost certainly in the clear coat and can be polished out. If your nail catches firmly, or you can see white primer or grey metal in the scratch, it is too deep for buffing.
How much does scratch repair cost in Ontario?
A body shop respray of a single panel typically runs several hundred to over a thousand dollars. Buffing out a clear-coat scratch costs far less because nothing is repainted — VGZ quotes from photos, so you know the price before booking. Rock-chip touch-up paint starts at $170, and full polishing starts at $280.
What is the difference between polishing and paint correction?
They are the same kind of work at different depths. Polishing is a lighter, single-stage gloss enhancement. Paint correction is multi-stage: a cutting compound levels the defects first, then a finer polish refines the finish. Which one your paint needs depends on its condition.
Will the swirl marks come back after paint correction?
The removed swirls are gone for good, but new ones can be put in by automatic car washes and dirty wash mitts. Wash the car properly and the finish holds. Vlad explains exactly what to avoid when he hands the car back.
How long does headlight restoration last?
Two to three years or more, because the lens is sealed with a UV coating after polishing. Store-bought kits that skip the sealing step usually cloud up again within months.
Is restoring headlights cheaper than replacing them?
Almost always, by a wide margin. New OEM headlight housings often cost several hundred dollars each before installation. VGZ restores both headlights for $80 — or $120 with a ceramic coating on top — in about an hour.
Do cloudy headlights actually affect night driving?
Yes. Oxidized lenses scatter the beam and can cut usable light output dramatically. Restored lenses put the light back on the road where it belongs, which matters on dark rural roads around York Region and Simcoe County.

How do I get a quote?
Take a photo of the scratch, the panel or the headlights in daylight and send it by text, WhatsApp or the contact form. You get a firm quote back the same day. No inspection appointment needed for most jobs.
How long does the work take?
Headlights: about an hour per pair. A single-panel scratch: one to two hours. Full paint correction: most of a day, sometimes two for multi-stage work on larger vehicles. You get a time estimate with your quote.
